Boston – A Fascist Police State?

I am so over all the conspiracy theories of our government involvement in Boston and cries of how the people’s Constitutional rights were violated. It’s no different than the crazies claiming that 9/11 was an inside job, so let’s break this down…

The National Guard
The National Guard routinely gets activated for large events. Their civil support teams are used for extra security and extra man power, although not in a law enforcement capacity. With any event as large as the Boston Marathon, extra security/man power would have been warranted – and even expected.

The Drill
Marathon participant Alastair Stevenson stated, “At the start at the event, at the Athlete’s Village, there were people on the roof looking down onto the Village at the start. There were dogs with their handlers going around sniffing for explosives, and we were told on a loud announcement that we shouldn’t be concerned and that it was just a drill. And maybe it was just a drill, but I’ve never seen anything like that — not at any marathon that I’ve ever been to. You know, that just concerned me that that’s the only race that I’ve seen in my life where they had dogs sniffing for explosions, and that’s the only place where there had been explosions.”
Well guess what Mr.Stevenson, that’s the way we do things here in America before and during large, high profile events.
Think New Year’s Eve at Times Square in New York. The NYPD assigns thousands of extra patrols in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but they aren’t all in plain sight.
Not only are there uniformed officers, but bomb-sniffing dogs and heavily armed counter-terrorism teams. But there are also plainclothes officers, assigned to blend into the crowd.

The Lock Down and the Fascist Police State
The so called lock down in Boston was not mandatory, the public was asked to shelter in place. There was no police state and no martial law enacted. Anyone that watched the live coverage could plainly see many people that chose not to stay indoors wandering around outside unimpeded.
For those not familiar with Shelter-in-place: SIP requests are generally limited in time and scope.
Asking the public to shelter in place isn’t an unusual request either- although it is more often used because of a chemical spill or, more recently, at schools during a shooter scare. It’s a way to keep people safe and out of the way until the responders can contain the area or eliminate the threat.
At the time, no one knew if it was just the 19 year old or an active terror cell. No one was getting hauled off to jail for being outside.

Obviously Boston runs on Dunkin Donuts

“There’s a lot of police presence. I don’t think anything crazy is going to happen,” said Don Foley, a glazier who stepped into the Dorchester Dunkin’ Donuts with co-workers.

From The Boston Globe: “For those involved in the manhunt, coffee and donuts were on the house for the day Friday. The few stragglers from the public who came in were also served.”
You know, like they do in all good fascist police states…

The Fourth Amendment – Unreasonable Search
The fourth amendment to the Constitution protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures by law enforcement. The amendment requires search and arrest warrants be sanctioned by a judge and supported by probable cause, but there are a few, limited exceptions.
Exceptions

  • Officers can search homes without warrants if the homeowner/renter willingly consents without coercion or deception.
  • An officer rightfully on someone’s property can legally search if he is in view of contraband or visible evidence of a crime.
  • Officers already arresting someone in their home can search to prevent the destruction of evidence or for weapons or accomplices.
  • The exception that I feel most applies to this situation –
Officers can search in time-restricted situations where the process of obtaining a valid warrant could compromise public welfare or potential evidence.

If any homes in Boston were entered and the owner believes it was done illegally, they also have the right to sue the city and the police department. See how that works?

I don’t know how I can make this anymore clear – As much as I’m not a fan of this administration, there is no government cover up or conspiracy in Boston to be found.
Nothing to see here people, now move along…
